Willow Smith and why growing up famous is "Absolutely terrible"
Willow Smith said in an interview for Girlgaze, “I’m going to be completely and utterly honest, it’s absolutely terrible.” She was asked what it was like growing up in the spotlight and being the daughter of Will and Jada Smith.
"Growing up and trying to figure out your life … while people feel like they have some sort of entitlement to know what’s going on, is absolute, excruciatingly terrible — and the only way to get over it, is to go into it,” Smith said. “You can’t change your face. You can’t change your parents. You can’t change any of those things," Willow Smith confessed.
Willow Smith was only 10 years old when her major song "Whip My Hair" became extremely popular. She said that social media played a big role in her life and she understands why people who grow up in the limelight becomes depressed.
“I feel like most kids like me end up going down a spiral of depression, and the world is sitting there looking at them through their phones, laughing and making jokes and making memes at the crippling effect that this lifestyle has on the psyche,” Smith said.
In 2012, Willow Smith shaved her head while she was in the middle of her Whip My Hair tour. According to Will Smith from Jay-Z's "Footnotes of Adnis," when they found Willow with her shaved head and said that she wanted to stop the tour halfway and he insisted her to continue. But, he understood what she was going through. He said that he looked at her and said, "Got it. I understand. You will not have this trouble out of me ever again. Let’s go, baby. We can go.’”
Willow Smith's latest album The 1st is produced and written by her. This album shows her point of view and all the different ways she see's the world. But most importantly, she said in her Girlgaze interview that this album has a lot of love songs, specifically self-love songs.
